How We Vet Our Cleaners – Building Trust from the Start

When you invite someone into your home, trust is everything.

Before a cleaner’s profile gets its VERIFIED check marks, they go through a series of checks designed to give you peace of mind. This isn’t a quick box-ticking exercise. Every document is manually reviewed by our team to make sure it’s valid, up-to-date, and relevant to the services they offer.

Step 1: Confirming Identity

We start with proof of ID. This isn’t just a name and email address. We require official government-issued identification (such as a passport or driving licence). This is processed through our partners at Veriff, who check for:

  • The name on the ID matches the applicant
  • The photo matches the person applying
  • The document is in date and valid

This step ensures you know exactly who you’re dealing with, reducing the risk of fraud or impersonation.

Result: An ID Verified marker and a tick on the cleaner’s profile.

Step 2: Proof of Insurance

Insurance is one of the most overlooked (but most important) factors when hiring a cleaner. It protects both you and them in the rare event that something goes wrong.

To claim an INSURED check mark on Cleaner Connect, cleaners must provide proof of active insurance. We:

  • Verify the policy is current
  • Confirm it covers the type of cleaning work offered
  • Check that the name matches the profile

Step 3: Proof of Address

We also require all our verified cleaners to submit proof of address. Why? For our protection and yours. If we have taken every possible step to make sure we know that you are who you say you are, this is a hurdle anyone wanting to use the platform for anything other than what we created it for won’t want to keep jumping over these hurdles. We are committed to the safety of all our members, and hopefully, by putting these hurdles in place, we can keep the platform safe from abuse and scammers.

Step 4: Manual Checks for Accuracy

Automated checks can miss important details. That’s why our process is human-led. A member of our team reviews each document to make sure it’s legitimate. No blurry uploads, no expired documents, no “close enough” approvals.

Why We Don’t Offer DBS Checks (Yet)

We know background checks are important for many customers, which is why we’re working on adding optional DBS checks in the near future. At launch, this feature isn’t available, but it’s firmly on our roadmap.

When we roll it out, cleaners who pass will have this listed on their profile so customers can see at a glance. Customers will be notified as soon as this goes live.

Why don’t we offer this now? Simple. There is no legal way we can verify that a DBS certificate is genuine if someone uploads it to their profile. If someone uploaded a fake, we could be telling you they are DBS checked when they aren’t. We aren’t in the business of taking those kinds of risks with our members’ safety. So until our own system is in place for obtaining our own DBS checks, we won’t be telling you that anyone is DBS verified.

For Customers: Why This Matters

Hiring a cleaner without proper checks can leave you vulnerable. By ensuring every verified cleaner who is able to be contacted on our platform is verified for ID and insurance, we:

  • Help you feel confident in your choice
  • Reduce the risk of unreliable or unsafe hires

On Cleaner Connect, we make our verification process clear. It is up to the customer whether they wish to contact a cleaner who may not yet have completed the verification process.

For Cleaners: Why Verification Helps You

If you’re a cleaner, verification means:

  • Shows you’re professional and serious about your work
  • Ensures customers know you are who you say you are
  • Speeds up trust-building with new clients

Approvals for verification typically happen within one business day once documents are submitted, so you can get listed and start receiving enquiries quickly.

Our Commitment to Safety

Verification isn’t a one-off. We encourage cleaners to keep documents up to date, and if insurance expires or ID becomes invalid, we remove the verification check marks until it’s fixed.

Some profiles may appear on Cleaner Connect before they have been verified. However, customers may contact them, and the profile owner won’t have the full functionality until they have completed their full verification. As part of our advertising and to encourage more cleaners onto the platform, we partner with local business directories to supply details of local cleaning companies. These profiles can then be claimed by those companies to become fully verified cleaning service provider profiles. If they are not claimed within a specified time limit, whilst we are advertising in that area, they will be deleted from the platform.
